OLYMPIA—Today at noon the Washington State Senate will officially recognize the importance of the Washington State Leadership Board’s outdoor leadership program for young people with disabilities, Boundless Washington, with an official Floor Resolution.

WSLB Announces Boundless 2021 student cohort
This month, the Washington State Leadership Board added four new students to Washington State’s outdoor leadership program for young people with disabilities, Boundless Washington. The 2-year program operates through a partnership between the Washington State Leadership Board, a trustee agency of Washington state that specializes in delivering equity-focused leadership programs, and Washington State. In 2020, Boundless Washington was codified into law by the State Legislature.

Our Experience of the Pandemic: Radical Adaptation
When we named Boundless Washington, we had in mind a troupe of enterprising young people hiking up mountains to our sparkling alpine lakes, waking up in sleeping bags in our old growth forests, and speeding down slopes in accessible skis. We had in mind leadership development forged by teamwork and individuals pushing themselves beyond their comfort zones, all in the Great Outdoors.
Then COVID-19 happened.

Pushing limits and possibilities Lt. Gov. Habib summited Kilimanjaro

In early September, Washington’s Lt. Gov. Cyrus Habib summited the 19,341 feet Uhuru Peak of Mount Kilimanjaro. Lieutenant Governor Cyrus Habib was elected Washington State’s 16th Lieutenant Governor in November 2016 at the age of 35. As Lt. Governor, he is President of the State Senate, serves as Acting Governor whenever Governor Inslee leaves the state and oversees an agency whose key issues include economic development, trade, and higher education. A three-time cancer survivor, Lt. Governor
Habib has been fully blind since age eight. His parents immigrated to the U.S. from Iran before he was born, and he is the first and only Iranian-American to hold statewide elected office in the United States.

Lt. Governor Habib’s Climb For a cause
Washington’s Lt. Gov. Cyrus Habib will be making a personal trip to the highest point in Africa—the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
He will be making the most of his climb by raising donations for Boundless Washington, an outdoor leadership development program for young people with physical and sensory disabilities in Washington State. Habib has been blind since a very young age.
